IPL for Pigmentation, Redness & Broken Capillaries: BTL Exilite Explained

15 January 2026

Intense pulsed light (IPL) is one of the most versatile tools in a clinical skin clinic — when settings are matched carefully to skin type and concern. At Skin Laine in Ballina we use BTL Exilite IPL for pigmentation, diffuse redness, superficial capillaries, acne-related redness, and general rejuvenation. Every plan starts with consultation; IPL is not suitable for every skin or every concern.

What is BTL Exilite IPL?

Exilite delivers broad-spectrum light in calibrated pulses. Filters and fluence are selected for your skin tone and the concern being treated — pigmented spots, background redness, thread veins, or a wider rejuvenation goal. The device allows structured protocols rather than a single generic setting for all clients.

Pigmentation and sun damage

IPL can target superficial pigment and uneven tone when your skin is assessed as suitable. Pigmented areas may darken briefly before fading as the skin renews. Deep melasma, moles, or lesions that need dermatology review are not appropriate for IPL — we examine the skin first and refer when needed.

Diffuse redness and rosacea-type flushing

Background redness and flushing can respond to vascular-filtered IPL when triggers, skincare, and skin type are considered together. Settings balance improvement with comfort and recovery. IPL supports appearance; it does not cure rosacea, and medical management may still be part of your wider care.

Broken capillaries and thread veins

Selected superficial capillaries and thread veins on the face or body may lighten after targeted passes. Depth, vessel size, and skin tone affect outcomes — we set realistic expectations at consultation. Some vessels need laser rather than IPL; we will advise if another modality is more appropriate.

Acne and rejuvenation

IPL may be included in plans for inflammatory acne and related redness when combined with suitable skincare and clinical review. It is not a replacement for medical acne treatment where that is required. For rejuvenation, broad-spectrum light can improve clarity and the appearance of photo-ageing over a course — typically around three sessions spaced weeks apart, adjusted to your skin’s response.

Safety, recovery, and photoprotection

IPL is not performed on recently tanned skin, with certain photosensitising medications, during pregnancy, or where contraindications apply. Mild redness after treatment is common. Strict SPF 50 and gentle aftercare between sessions are essential for safe, steady improvement.

Wondering if IPL is right for your pigmentation, redness, or capillaries? Book a consultation at Skin Laine in Ballina. We will assess your skin, explain what Exilite can realistically achieve, and design a course — only if IPL is appropriate for you.
